BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
May 2022 - In May, the students were divided in to 8 "Construction Companies" to build bridges using sandwich picks. This is a STEMATH application project where each group must work together to build the best bridge possible that can hold the most weight under a limited budget. They have to follow building codes, fill out order forms, write checks, and run their construction companies just like a real business. It’s a project that reinforces a lot of math skills, highlights social skills, and emphasizes concentration on details… and most importantly, it’s a lot of fun.
After 3 weeks of building, the exciting time came when the bridges were tested to see how many books they can hold. Each book weighs 4.66 lbs. As bridge after bridge went down, the last bridge left standing was the "Monke Construction" group (Kyle, Preston, Ryan, Mateo) with the total of 11 books for a sustained weight of 51.3 pounds!!! CONGRATULATIONS to the Monke Construction Group! 👏👏👏
e all had a fun time working on this project!
