BALLOON CAR
September 21, 2021 - We explored Newton's 3rd Law of Motion and built Balloon Cars for this STEM project. Each group came up with their own car design using 1 balloon, 2 notecards, 3 straws, and 4 lifesavers as wheels. As the air escapes from the balloon, it pushes the car forward, thus fulfilling Newton's 3rd law which states, "For every action, there's an equal and opposite re-action." Unfortunately, the "re-actions" were not assured as faulty engineering designs and friction can limit the distance the car can travel. However, building cars and testing out Newton's law was a lot of fun.
After the exciting competition, Preston won the distance contest and set the all time distance record of 13.8 feet with his balloon car. Congratulations! Photos taken by: Janessa & Rosalie |
